Longwood Gardens was conceived, designed, and built by Pierre S. du Pont as a country residence in the early 20th century. Following Mr. du Pont passing in 1954, the property (totaling over 1,077 acres) transitioned into a public botanical garden and now attracts over 1 million annual visitors.
The Main Fountain Garden is a signature feature of Longwood and the scene of summer firework displays and outdoor concerts. Originally constructed in the 1930's, the fountain garden recently underwent a $90 million restoration of fountains and garden architecture to return to its original beauty and introduce stunning new water feature displays.
