Founded in 2016:

Following 11 successful years with the New York City-based lighting design firm L'Observatoire International, WATT was founded by Jason Neches upon relocating to beautiful Seattle, Washington.    Jason served as L'Observatoire's Director, overseeing a staff of 20 designers in multiple studio teams.  In addition to studio and practice management, Jason also served as Project Manager and Senior Lighting Designer on many notable L'Observatoire projects.

Our Services:

WATT provides independent design and specification services for architectural lighting and user controls.  Untethered from individual manufacturers or sales channels, WATT offers unbiased expert guidance on all lighting-related issues within your project.  We are your advocate for lighting, drawing upon broad contacts within the lighting industry and 15 years of experience on a wide variety of projects big and small.

Design Process:

WATT provides design and construction administration services throughout the life of a project - from concept to owner occupancy.

• Our design process starts with communication - verbal, written, visual - to fully understand a project's context, content, and vision (goals).  WATT parallels an architect's progression through the project, contributing design deliverables at regular milestones that document and explain our lighting solutions.  

• WATT keeps a close eye on budgets, sustainability issues, and detail integration as project design progresses, working closely with members of the design and ownership team.

• During bidding phase / contractor vetting WATT offers independent review of lighting costs.

• During construction WATT reviews contractor's lighting submittals to ensure compliance with approved construction documentation and design intent.  WATT visits the project site to verify (review, check) proper installation of equipment and provide guidance to contractors.

• Immediately following construction completion WATT directs the finishing touches on the lighting including aiming and lighting control / dimming settings, to ensure the project's best ambience and performance.
